Seniors and Chiropractic Care

With Age Comes Wisdom

Discover new ways to care for yourself at every stage of life.  It is not a surprise that with the aging body, pain can creep into your daily life more often. It may be a surprise to learn how chiropractic care can greatly assist the reduction of this pain. Let’s explore what we do know, what we may not know, and hear from a first-time client who has learned and gained much through her new form of care.

What do we know about aging bones, muscles and joints?
In short:
  • Bones become less dense and more brittle making them easier to break or fracture
  • Muscles become less toned, more ridged and less able to contract making them weaker
  • Joints become more stiff and inflexible while joint fluid and cartilage reduce
Add all of these things together without any interventions, and you could be talking about chronic pain.
How do seniors and chiropractic care mix?
To sum up Dr. Vic Naumov’s list of benefits (see link above for more detail),
  • Pain Relief
  • Increase Range of Motion of Spine & Extremities
  • Increase Balance & Coordination
  • Decrease Joint Degeneration
  • Increase Health and Well-Being
  • Decreased Incidence of Falling
  • Keeps Seniors Out of Nursing Homes
Dorothy’s Experience
At 70 years of age, Dorothy experiences chiropractic care for the first time.

At 70 years of age, Dorothy experiences chiropractic care for the first time.

I am 70 years old, retired and try to do as little work as possible. I still work part-time though cleaning our local church to help put our three grandkids through college at Iowa State. I have never been to a chiropractor before. My hip and lower back pain brought me to the chiropractor after a doctor friend highly recommended it.

I feared that the chiropractor would hurt me worst than the pain I was already in, and I wouldn’t be able to get it fixed. I don’t like pain. I live with the amount of pain I’m in and didn’t want any more.

I came 10 minutes before my appointment to decrease my fears. I was having a panic attack. When I get scared, I get stressed.
But, it was nothing like I thought it’d be, maybe because I am old. I thought the doctor would have me in contortions I wouldn’t be able to do or get out of.

Afterwards, I felt so calm and I could walk. I would recommend chiropractic care to anyone! Anyone with a baby as I heard all the benefits children can have after seeing a chiropractor. I will be scheduling my husband’s first appointment for his legs and hips.

If I was talking to someone who had never been to the chiropractor and was considering it but was fearful, I would tell them about my experience and that it’s nothing like how I thought it was going to be.
